Club Descriptions

After-school activities begin Tuesday, October 1, 2019 and are scheduled on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:10 - 4:20 p.m.  Students hear about activities during morning announcements and lunches in case there are changes to any of the programs for the day.  Parents, please check the website for updates. Activity buses are provided each day and leave school at 4:30 p.m.  Bus routes are different from the regular routes and are posted above. 

RecXtra's Exploring Music Club: Interested in exploring a variety of different instruments? Come and join the Music Club. This will be a casual place for students to gather to make music and/or listen to music. Wednesday, October 16 to December 11. Sponsor: Mr. Johns, band room.

Jazz Band: This club will explore all sub-genres of Jazz. The group will be one ensemble that meets on Thursdays. The Jazz ensembles may perform in the winter and spring concerts, as well as at the MCPS Jazz Festival at SHS in December and on the music department trip in May. Meeting 10/10, 10/17, 11/21, 12/12 and every Thursday after winter break. Sponsor: Mr. Johns, band room.

RecXtra's Dungeons and Dragons: Are you a Dungeons and Dragons fan? Come out and play your favorites. Starting Tuesday, October 15, Sponsor: Mr. Johns, band room.

Wyld Wednesdays: A club to play "wyld" and crazy games, make new friends and have fun in the middle of the week. Starting Wednesday, October 2, Sponsor: Mr. Watson, meet on the tennis courts.

Math Team: Are you fantastic at math and want to show off your skills? Come join the Math Team. The Math Team will meet weekly on Wednesdays after school to prepare for math competitions. The students will participate in 4 county competitions at other local middle schools. Starting Wednesday, October 16, Sponsor Ms. Maloney, room 015.

History Club: Students who enjoy history or need help with Social Studies assignments are welcome. Students will practice Social Study skills, examine current events, and get help with SS assignments. Starting November 6, 11/20, 12/4 every other Wednesday (a schedule with exact dates will be handed out).

RecXtra’s Leo Club & SERT Club: Students with an interest in community service are welcome.  The Lions Club established the club in an effort to bring youth into community service through their school.  The club is dedicated to helping the community by engaging students in various community service projects.  Students will receive student service learning hours for participating in projects. Wednesdays, October 16, Sponsor: Ms. DeYoung, room 030.

Homework Club: HW Club is an extra-curricular activity offered on Tuesdays after school.  It is designed to give students an opportunity to complete homework in a peer-group setting. Sign ups will take place the day before in the cafeteria. If space is available on that day, more students may attend. Phone use is strictly prohibited. Starting Tuesday, October 1, room 030.

Asian American Club: Come explore Asian American culture and build relationships. Club will meet 10/22, 11/5, 11/19, 12/3, 1/07, 1/21, 2/4, 2/25, 3/3, 3/17, 3/31, 4/21. Sponsor: Ms. Hallmark and Ms. Lazaris.

Student Government Association (SGA):  Involvement in activities that promote civic duty for the FMS community, such as canned food drive, fundraisers, and dance.  An election by peers to represent students in SGA takes place early fall in world studies classes.  Student members may attend meetings outside FMS.   An application is required for students not already elected as delegates. Starting Wednesday, October 16. A schedule will be provided to the students. 10/16,10/23,11/13,12/4,12/11,1/08,1/22,2/5,2/12, 2/26,3/4,3/25,4/1,4/15 Sponsor: Ms. Broadwater, room 003.

Project Change: This club is for anyone who has the desire to give back and connect to our community.  Ensure you have a voice and play a significant role in making our community the best it can be! Students gain a better understanding of Student Service Learning from multiple perspectives and get a first-hand look at volunteering. Starting October 1st. A schedule will be given to students with the exact dates. Room 220.

Yearbook: Students interested in creating the annual FMS yearbook assist with designing layouts, taking pictures, coming up with creative ideas and advertising the yearbook sale. An application is required. Starting Thursday, October 3, Sponsor: Ms. Gramkow, room 201.

Intramurals:  The intramural program is designed to provide a variety of interesting, diverse, and challenging sports activities to accommodate differing levels of needs, skill, readiness, and interests.  The following activities are offered this fall:

POMS (Ms. Williams—Wednesdays in the Aux Gym) October 2 - April 22.

School Musical: Our fabulous Spring Musical will be announced soon. Auditions will take place December 2,3, & 4. The show will take place on March 20,21, & 22.

More programs will be added throughout the year.

RecXtra’s Board Games with Mr. Ingram—starting Tuesdays on November 19 - April 21.

There will be no after school activities in May or June.
