A message from Principal Edward Owusu

Clarksburg High School Students, Staff, and Families,

This week is a 4 day week as we close out the 2nd Marking Period. Friday is a staff professional day and schools are closed for students. Spring Sports registration opens Monday online. CHS will host a Family Forum on Fentanyl & Life Saving Narcan Training this Saturday. Please Click This Link To REGISTER today! Please see the important information in this newsletter. (Please click this link to see our weekly newsletter.)

You are invited to an important community forum that will be held at Clarksburg High School. On Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 9:30 - 11:30 am, CHS will host a Family Forum on Fentanyl & Life Saving Narcan Training in the Clarksburg High School Cafeteria. At this forum panelists will share important information for families on the dangers and prevalence of fentanyl, prevention tools, and protective factors for students and resources for treatment when needed. Please Click This Link To REGISTER.

Registration for the Spring Athletic Season opens on Monday January 23rd at noon. Registration is completed through ParentVUE and can be found under the “Online Registration” tab from the main screen. Tryouts/practices begin on Wednesday March 1 and are only open to registered and approved to tryout with a current physical on file.

Spring Sports are: Baseball (V & JV); Boys & Girls Lacrosse (V & JV); Softball (V & JV); Allied Softball (starts 3/13); Boys & Girls Tennis; Boys & Girls Track & Field and Boys & Coed Volleyball. Additional information about registration can be found on our athletics website at: https://chscoyotes.org/2023/01/19/spring-23-season/

As an athletics reminder CHS Basketball games have moved to Tier 1. This means student school identification cards are required for students, and only students at participating event schools may attend games alone. Students under age 18 may attend games with an adult if they attend another non participating school. Adult must stay for duration of the game.

This week CHS will continue collecting all Acer C771 model Chromebooks along with chargers from 11th grade students. Please remind your students to bring their Chromebooks and chargers. 11th grade students will then receive a Lenovo 300e and charger. These are the same Chromebooks that 9th, 10th and 12th grade students currently have. If students have already received a Lenovo 300e, they do not need to have it exchanged. If students do not bring a charger, they will still be able to receive a Lenovo 300e.

Incoming grade 9 students and families currently in middle school should see this registration information: Incoming 9th Grade Registration Materials

As we now settle into the middle of the winter weather season, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is improving its process for informing the community when weather requires an operational status change and when a closure might justify a shift to virtual instruction. When it is determined that conditions are unsafe for students and staff, we have six operational status options, which will now be reported by easy-to-understand, color-coded messages. Read the full message here to learn more: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/publicinfo/community/school-year-2022-2023/Community-Message-20230113.html

Here are five things you need to know. Get information about a family forum addressing the dangers of Fentanyl, free SAT prep classes for high schools and more. Read Full Message

In this weekly message you will find information about our upcoming community meeting, Yearbook Advertising, upcoming visits from higher education representatives in our College & Career Center, athletics schedules, and more.
