Clarksburg High School Students, Staff, and Families,

This week is a full 5 day week with the Valentines Day spirit culminating on Tuesday. Students may continue to sign up for Summer Rise Internships as well as other opportunities to serve and shine. The Black Student Union sponsored Spirit Week begins Monday. Check out the themes in the full newsletter. Congrats to Ms. Shannon McKenzie, Child Development Teacher and MCPS Teacher of the Year finalist. We are filled with pride for her and all our staff and students! Three teachers have been named 2023-2024 MCPS Teacher of the Year finalists. They are: Megan Anderson, fifth grade teacher at Chevy Chase Elementary School; Eunju (April) Moon, sixth grade English teacher at Ridgeview Middle School; and Clarksburg High School's own Shannon McKenzie, Child Development Teacher. The winner will go on to compete for Maryland Teacher of the Year honors. Read more about the finalists

The NAACP Parent Council and Black and Brown Coalition for Education Equity and Excellence is hosting a Virtual Conversation with MCPS Superintendent Dr. McKnight. The event will occur on February 22,2023 from 6:30-8:00PM. Please Register HERE .

CHS Plans to offer the College Board's SAT during the school day on Wednesday, March 22. 11th grade students can help prepare in advance. Please see the SAT School Day Information in our newsletter.

Current 10th and 11th graders interested in gaining great career experience this summer should sign up for Summer Rise. A two week paid internship is a great stepping stone for future opportunities. Please see the Summer Rise information in our newsletter.

Join 100 Black Men Inc. of DC for a STEM Expo to benefit the American Heart Month. The event will take place February 25 at Rocky Hill MS. See the information in our newsletter.

MARCH 1st is the LAST day to order cap and gowns. Please go to the Josten's website as soon as possible to order. You must have a cap/gown to participate in graduation. Please see Mrs. Coe with any questions. Financial assistance is possible.
 

The CHS Senior/Junior Prom will take place May 5, 2023. Cedarbrook Community Church and Clarksburg Closet want to be sure our students look GOOD. Check out the information in our newsletter for the Prom Dress Giveaway, March 11.

Sign up to attend the MSP retreat!!! Email or see Mr. David Kim or Ms. Deddeh Bedell CHS teachers to get involved in the Minority Scholars Program and attend this fantastic retreat.
 

Registration for the Spring Athletic Season is open. Registration is completed through ParentVUE and can be found under the "Online Registration" tab from the main screen. Tryouts/practices begin on Wednesday March 1 and are only open to registered and approved to tryout with a current physical on file.

Spring Sports are: Baseball (V & JV); Boys & Girls Lacrosse (V & JV); Softball (V & JV); Allied Softball (starts 3/13); Boys & Girls Tennis; Boys & Girls Track & Field and Boys & Coed Volleyball.
