Principal's Weekly Message

CHS Seal

A message from Principal Edward Owusu

Clarksburg High School Students, Staff, and Families,

Welcome Back!!! Hopefully you had a chance to read my Welcome Letter sent a few weeks ago. (See Principal's Welcome Letter and Information 2022) I have been saying it all summer and it will carry-on throughout the year. We are ONE Clarksburg! Only together as a school community of students, staff, and caregivers can we overcome the distractions and obstacles that will inevitably challenge us. Its not a request or invitation, its an expectation that our current and future success will depend on a united effort.

In this first Sunday Weekly Message, I am excited to welcome teachers and most staff back to school this Monday, and new 9th grade and new upperclass students to CHS on Thursday of this week! All students will return in just over a week on Monday, September 29 at 7:45 am.

LOOKOUT - DRIVE, RIDE, AND WALK SAFEYLY!

Some students return this Thursday, August 25, during 9th grade and New Upperclass Student Orientation (See Orientation Agenda). 9th grade and new upperclass students will receive their Chromebook computers on Thursday and may want to bring a backpack to carry it home.

All students attend on Monday, August 29 for the first full day of school for all students. Homeroom classrooms will be used on both days to start. Here is the CHS HOMEROOM Classroom list that will also be posted around the school.

On Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the auditorium, we will be conducting our annual “Fall Meet the Coaches” Night. This required meeting is an opportunity for the parents of our student-athletes to talk with the coaches of our fall sports teams and learn about the policies and procedures associated with athletics at Clarksburg High School. Please see the full newsletter and visit the athletics website at www.CHScoyotes.org for details.

MCPS has shared the Reopening Guide for the upcoming school year. It contains the latest guidance concerning COVID-19 and outlines what to expect in curriculum and instruction, tutoring, grading, supports for students, staff and families and more. MCPS will remain mask-optional when students return to classes Aug. 29. MCPS will also discontinue weekly COVID-19 screening testing of students who opted in, which was intended to catch asymptomatic cases of the virus. Rapid tests will still be available and used in schools if a student presents symptoms of COVID-19. In alignment with CDC guidelines, MCPS will no longer ask “close contacts” of people who tested positive to quarantine, regardless of their vaccination status.

Read the full guide here or visit the guide website.

Come join MCPS staff and community partners in our highly anticipated kickoff for the Back-to-School Fair 2022-2023 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Westfield Wheaton mall. Visit the Back-to-School Fair website to learn more and make an appointment for vaccinations or immunizations.

Bus schedules for the 2022–2023 school year are be posted online for the entire county, as well as for CHS (See CHS Bus Schedules). Some bus routes may change. Department of Transportation staff are working diligently to ensure all routes are covered and efficient; however, some routes may experience service delays due to staffing and the need for multiple runs. Updates regarding delays and uncovered routes will be communicated on a daily basis by schools and available on the MCPS website.

In this weekly message you will find a message from our PTSA President, athletics schedules and mores.
