Physical Education

Welcome to the world of Physical Education, where fitness comes first. Each unit, at each grade level, focuses on knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a healthy level of fitness for a lifetime. This includes the ideas of cardio-respiratory endurance (getting your heart rate up), strength, flexibility, goal setting, teamwork, and movement skills.

Mission Statement

In Physical Education class at Cannon Road ES, the students will be dedicated to learning about and participating in activities that:

  • Improve and maintain a healthy physical fitness level
  • Teach them to eat good foods and make healthy life choices
  • Help them become more efficient movers in space
  • Improve their skill in sport settings
  • Help understand how the body works together to move

And, most importantly…

  • Help them to solve problems and respect each other and themselves as teammates and friends

If you would like to have a better understanding of the units that we complete, to fulfill this mission, take a look at the following document:

Parent Curruculum Sheets

To apply these concepts outside of school, and to build healthy habits, the students complete physical activity calendars each month. Each student that brings back their calendar, exercising at least four (4) times a week, each week of the month, gets a shoe on the “FITT KIDS” wall and a toe token keychain. Even if they could not exercise each week, points are still earned for the exercises they could do. We do have a small grade level exercise competition. Have your child be a FITT KID!!!

Here is a blank Calendar, in case you miss the one that is handed out each month (only when school is in session in the building, not during virtual instruction). Just write in the name of the month and the numbers for the days of the week.

PE_High TopOn a note of safety, please be mindful of the day of the week that your child has physical education class. Make sure that they have good running shoes on that day, and not boots, heels, or sandals/flip-flops. If your child does not have correct shoes on, they will be asked to take a break during activity-time, for their safety in movement.

Here is a copy of the paper that will be sent home, as a reminder for Shoe Safety.

Go Cougars!!!
