Sunday Night Screamer (May 2, 2021)

Good evening Burtonsville Families.  This is your Assistant Principal, Mrs. Gobourne, with the Sunday Night Screamer!

 Summer School Registration

Burtonsville ES will hold a free In-Person Summer School Program!  The program will run daily July 6th-30th, from 9:30 AM-2:00 PM, which will include an opportunity for students to be served lunch.

The program will include literacy, mathematics, and a weekly rotation of special classes:  Physical Education, Music, Art, and Media. Bus service will be provided for all students.  Registration begins tomorrow, Monday, May 3rd. 

Please see the attached flyer to register your rising Kindergarten through 5th-grade students.  (Current 5th graders can register for summer school through their middle school.)   We hope to see your children this summer for this wonderful opportunity! 

Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! Each year, Assistant State Superintendent Marcella E. Franczkowski and the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) partner with the Maryland Coalition of Families and the Mental Health Association of Maryland to raise awareness and offer resources to schools, staff, families, and students. 

Please visit the Children's Mental Health Matters.org: A Maryland Public Awareness Campaign, where you can find helpful downloads,  order publications, access crisis support, and get other help for you and your children when it is needed most. 

 Scholastic Book Fair

The book fair has arrived at Burtonsville Elementary!  The book fair will be virtual this year.  It will run from now until May 14th.  Next week, students can show their school spirit and celebrate reading each day (see attached flyer.)

  • Monday - “Burtonsville Spirit Day”
  • Tuesday - “CraZy HaIr DaY!
  • Wednesday - “Mismatch Day”
  • Thursday - “Book Character Day”
  • Friday - “Pajama Day”

 PTA Meeting

The PTA meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 4, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, June 1, 2021.  The Zoom link will be provided prior to the day of the meeting. Please make a note of the date change.  We look forward to seeing you at our final meeting of the school year.

 Things to Remember:

  • Monday, May 3 – Friday, May 7, is an A-Week for students in grades 4 and 5 (Mrs. Sansom, Ms. Stevenson, Mrs. Pearson, and Ms. Benjamin’s classes.)
  • COVID-19 pool testing is scheduled for staff and students participating in in-person learning at Burtonsville, Tuesday, May 4, 2021.  Please remember, if you do not complete the consent form, your child will not be able to participate in the testing.
