School & Community News…Lost & Found - As the temperature outside increases, so does the items in our lost and found.  If your child is missing clothes shirts, jackets, hoodies, sweaters, hats) water bottles, umbrellas, lunchboxes, and even eyeglasses) please remind them to stop and look for them in the lost and found.  All unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity on June 16, 2023.Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) 🎓- Students in Grades 3 & 5 will take the Math portion of MCAP,  Monday, May 15, and Tuesday, May 16.  Make-up tests will take place on May 17 - May 26, for students in grades 3 through 5, who were absent during the initial test administration.  Click here for more MCAP information and resources. .How to help your child/Reminders:

  • Get a good night’s rest the night before
  • Eat a healthy breakfast at home or plan to eat the school-provided breakfast
  • Be on time on the day of testing - Students who arrive at school late will not be allowed into the classroom during a testing session and will be required to test on a make-up day.
  • NO CELL PHONES/WATCHES 📵- Personal mobile devices, such as cell phones/watches, during the administration of the assessment is a violation of test security and is strictly prohibited. Students will NOT be allowed access to such devices during the testing period.

Math and Reading Carnival Night - Thursday, May 18th is Math and Reading Carnival Night!  Bring the entire family out for an evening of fun while learning.  There will be games, an obstacle course, STEM activities, and more!  This is a BES Staff hosted event. (Event flyer)

Burtonsville’s Got Talent🎤: This is a fundraiser event you do not want to miss!  Tuesday, May 30, 2023, from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm in the multipurpose room.  Come out and show your support for our STARS as they take the stage and share their talents.  Our PTA will sell slices of pizza during the event. (Event flyer)Antiracist System Action Plan - BES Community:  During the May 2nd PTA meeting we shared a summary of our antiracist audit survey data; specific results, the work we have done so far, and action plans for continuous improvement.   If you were unable to attend the meeting or would simply like a copy of what was discussed, Click here to learn more.  

The State of Maryland requires that schools conduct six annual mandated drills: lockdown; shelter-in-place; evacuation; reverse evacuation; severe weather; drop, cover, and hold (earthquake).  This year, we will also conduct a Parent-Child-Reunification (PCR) drill. . Please ensure that the emergency contact and student release information for your child(ren) is updated.  You can call the school at 240-740-5700 for assistance.


A Message from our PTA…Cultural Night is on Friday, May 19, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the blacktop. Come out to share your culture with fun facts, performances, music, and more! Literacy Council Offers Free ESL Classes For MCPS Parents: In collaboration with MCPS, the Literacy Council of Montgomery County (LCMC) is offering free English as a Second Language classes for MCPS parents. The classes will be held virtually and in person, and there are options for all levels of English speakers.
