MCPS Tech Advisory

As Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) prepares to implement a fully virtual instructional model this week, we wish all of our students, teachers, staff, and families well as they embark on a new school year. We understand that this is a challenging time in education, and we stand ready to support our students, teachers, staff, and families.

Many other districts in the United States will be starting up their virtual learning models as well. This increased demand will likely challenge many online systems including Canvas (myMCPS Classroom), Synergy, Zoom, and other educational programs including LearnZillion, StudySync, and more. MCPS staff received numerous updates from our instructional technology partners and they have all worked diligently to ramp up their capacity to ensure a smooth start to school.

We ask that staff, students, and families be patient while the many companies and service providers sort out any bumps that develop when demand jumps in the coming days. We thank you for all you do for the students of MCPS!

To help with connecting, please refer to the following guide:

Occasionally there may be issues with Canvas (myMCPS Classroom), Synergy, Zoom, or other platforms. If Canvas is having difficulty, students can still attend their Zoom sessions and work on any assignments they can access. If Zoom isn't up to speed, then focus on what's available in myMCPS Classroom. Students may also have other applications that teachers have asked them to use as well. If those are available, then a student can work on those activities. Teachers will also be providing students with additional suggestions for what students can do when there are technology glitches.

If you are experiencing technical issues, you can email them directly to or call  240-740-7020.

This is where all student/parent technical issues can be addressed.  There are also resources on the MCPS website to help troubleshoot a variety of technical issues.
