8th Grade Field Trip - College and Career

Field Trip Permission Slip

Dear Parents and Guardians of our 8th Grade Scholars,

On Friday, April 28, 2023, we will be taking the eighth grade to their choice of various colleges and programs around the area to learn what future opportunities are available to them.

These include:

  • University of Maryland–College Park, 4603 Calvert Rd, College Park MD  20742
  • Bowie State University, 14000 Jericho Park Road, Bowie MD  20715
  • Edison High School, 12501 Dalewood Dr, Silver Spring, MD  20906
  • Fire Training Public Service Academy, 8751 Snouffer School Rd, Montgomery Village, MD  20879
  • Montgomery College–Takoma Park, 7600 Takoma Ave #4141, Takoma Park, MD  20912

Students will receive a college and career presentation through history classes which includes a Naviance student interest survey and details about each location and its programs. Following the presentation, students will have the option to choose their first and second choice of location based on both the details of each presented, and the results of their interest survey. They will be assigned to a location based on their request and space available.  Students will know their assigned locations before the trip.

The day of the trip, students will attend their first and second periods.  An announcement will be made for those students to assemble in the cafeteria to board the buses.  Students are asked to bring their lunch with them, request a school lunch below.

As always, if there is a financial reason you are unable to allow your child to attend, please email or Ms. Hendrix for assistance. Free school lunch is available to all that attend.

Finally, in representing Briggs Chaney Middle School, it is expected that all students uphold the Paw Pride and act with respect during the entire trip. We have high expectations and standards for all BCMS students and hope to show that to the respective college representatives while on campus.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email or

Sincerely,
