World Languages Department

Learning a World language is every student's passport to acquiring 21st  Century skills, building relationships and engaging learning. It will allow them to be active participants of our global society; it offers our students the opportunity to strengthen their self-confidence in language and to explore the richness and diversity of another culture.

Learning any language is exciting and fun! And it is so relevant for today's world. Did you know that Spanish is the fourth most commonly spoken language in the world? That Vietnam's 2nd  language is French? That the United States has the fifth-largest Hispanic population in the world! Between both languages there are over 50 countries where Spanish & French are the main or 2nd  language spoken. Did you know that students who know a second language generally score higher on standardized tests than students who do not?

Here at BCMS, we offer students the opportunity to acquire authentic world language skills and knowledge. Students learn language and culture by participating in carefully-planned lessons, hands-on projects, speaking, & writing activities.

As natives and experienced teachers, we bring new innovative ideas to get our students to love and learn Spanish or French. Our new and exciting curriculum will engage students with games, videos, conversations and opportunities to share their learning and experiences with teachers, peers and parents.
We invite you to browse our page, get to know us and enjoy a little bit of the world around you!

Mrs. Krystina Hernandez, Content Specialist and Spanish Teacher - email
Teaching has always been a passion of mine and I look forward to sharing that with you! I have a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Language & Culture and a Master's Degree in Global Strategic Communications. My pursuit of language studies in academia and as a professional translator has given me many opportunities to travel and work all over the world including Spain, Italy, Peru, and the United Arab Emirates. I enjoy cooking, watching movies, and studying.
I love history, all of which are enhanced by my love of languages and culture. Exploring new places, meeting different people, and trying exotic foods are just a few fun reasons to dive into learning a new language and I'm happy to take this journey with you!

Ms. Eirete De Jesus, Spanish Teacher - email
I am a fully bilingual teacher from San Juan, Puerto Rico. I speak Spanish and English, and I also have a general knowledge of ASL. I have taught ESL, Social Studies, Biology, Chemistry and Ethics, in all levels. I have been teaching for the past 12 years. I wanted to be a Pediatrician, that is why my BA is in Science, but a friend introduced me to teaching after graduation, and I loved it!
I am a sports fan and my teams are: baseball - Cardinals; football - 49ers and NBA - Lakers. Those have been my teams for as long as I can remember and I stick to them, even if their performance is not what it used to be. It's easy to be with a team (or a person) when they are at their high, but what truly demonstrates loyalty is when you stick to it (or them) at their lows.
My favorite season is fall, I just love all the colors and the feeling it brings. In my free time I love to read, have a good cup of coffee and just have some 'me time'. I am looking forward to an exciting and wonderful year, teaching Spanish at Briggs Chaney Middle School.

Ms. Alesea Dikoko-Woodgett, French - email

Bonjour! Bienvenue!

I’m so excited to be part of the Briggs Chaney Middle School family and can’t wait to meet you in my classroom. I moved here from Madison, Alabama after hearing so many wonderful things about the Montgomery County Public Schools.

I was born in Brazzaville, Congo a French speaking country. My mother a southern woman from Alabama and my father a native of Congo (Brazzaville) met here in the US. However, their careers took us to Congo, Gabon, Nigeria, France, England, the Netherlands, Malaysia and the US.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in French as well as a Master’s in Public Administration with a focus in education and foreign policy. In my free time I love traveling, reading, camping, and playing board games with my family.  I can’t wait to share with you my love of the French language and culture this year.

À bientôt!

He attended Woodlin Elementary school, Sligo Middle school, and Einstein High school before going on to the University of Maryland - College Park. Sr. Padilla is a big baseball fan. His favorite athlete of all time is Michael Jordan, and he roots for the Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Orioles. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing his guitars and listening to all kinds of music. One item from his bucket list would be to attend the Grand Prix de Monca F1 race.
