Holds to Go Media Center Program

BHES is proud to announce that we are starting our Holds to Go Program for our media center.  Students can check out up to 5  books from our school’s library collection and pick them up at the school on identified Wednesdays (Draft Calendar)!

They may check books out for two weeks or longer.  When books are returned, they will be placed in quarantine for one week.   When books are in quarantine, they are still considered checked out.  The maximum number of books students may check out is ten.  This includes those books sitting in quarantine.

Students can request 5 books for checkout using Destiny Discover (Help Guide for DD here)  The process is modeled in this video so you can learn/review how to reserve books for checkout.

Students  will need to wait for an email from Mrs.  Park or Mrs. Newman that states that the books are ready for pick up for the next scheduled Wednesday pickup day before coming to school.  This email will be sent to your child’s Canvas/myMCPS classroom Inbox and will include any observers to that account. The books will be gathered by media staff who will be wearing gloves and masks.

After you receive the email notification, you can pick up your books by driving up to  the main entrance of the school between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM on the scheduled Wednesday.  Please refer to the times and dates that are included in the notification email as we may make changes. A masked staff member will be available to assist with the process.

When you come to the school, be sure you have your child’s  last name clearly written on paper so we can see from far away which books to bring to your car.  We will only place the books in your trunk or unoccupied backseat to minimize contact as much as possible.

There will be a notice inside your books that lists all materials that were checked out. It will be the student’s responsibility to check their Destiny Discover account for books that are checked out, books that are overdue, and books that have been reserved.

Books can be returned on Wednesdays, too.  Please have them in your unoccupied  backseat or trunk with a note that says Return.  We will quarantine all returned books for one week to ensure it is safe for them to circulate again.

We may refine our procedures as we move forward with this endeavor, as this is a new undertaking for all of us!

Please contact Mrs. Park or Mrs. Newman if you have any questions.
