Counselor: Mrs. Marissa Fried
Hello Bethesda Elementary School families! My name is Marissa Fried and I am thrilled to be joining Bethesda Elementary’s team as the new school counselor. I am looking forward to working with your students throughout the school year to help address individual needs and maximize success! As a Montgomery County school counselor, I will address four areas of your child’s education: Academic Achievement, Personal Development, Social Development, and Career Development. These areas are addressed through the following ways:
One-on-one counseling is available to all students in grades K through 5. This support is intended to address specific emotional, behavioral or social concerns that a particular child may have. I see students for a variety of reasons including difficulty with school work, conflicts with friends, bullying, self-esteem issues, anxiety, death in the family, etc.
Small Group Counseling
Small group counseling provides support for students in grades K through 5 with similar academic, social, or personal concerns. When students are exhibiting difficulty in a particular area, teachers or parents can refer a child for group counseling. Small groups will take place during lunchtime. Topics may include: friendship, self-esteem, social skills, divorce/separation, anger management, self-esteem, cooperative play, etc. Occasionally we will also have lunch groups just to enjoy talking with each other!
Classroom Guidance Lessons
Classroom guidance lessons are provided for grades K through 5. I will visit all classrooms on a monthly rotation to discuss topics such as conflict resolution, respect for self and others, decision making, friendship, bullying, inclusion, career exploration, and cooperation/teamwork.
If at anytime I can be of assistance to you or your family, please do not hesitate to contact me at 240-204-5300 or Marissa_T_Fried@mcpsmd.org. I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
