Shoshanah Drake- Full Time General Music Teacher
Mrs. Drake is in her 26th year of teaching music. She is returning to Beall after working as a Consulting Teacher in MCPS for 3 years mentoring new and tenured teachers and taught general/vocal music most recently teaching at Lake Seneca Elementary School. Ms. Drake is an active member of several professional organizations including Maryland Music Educators Association (MMEA)and American Orff Schulwerk Association (AOSA). She is a past president of the Middle Atlantic chapter and works with Maryland General Music Teachers Association. Mrs. Drake presents workshops at local, state, and national conferences. She writes general music curriculum for MCPS and is piloting the curriculum at Beall. She co-teaches Level I Orff Schulwerk certification classes at George Mason University and was the recipient of the 2014 MMEA Outstanding Music Educator of the Year award. She enjoys spending time with her husband and son and loves watching hockey.
Ms. Davis - Part Time General Music Teacher
Carol Davis is a 19 year veteran of Montgomery County Public Schools and is also the general music teacher and choral director at Ritchie Park Elementary. She holds Music Education degrees from University of Maryland, College Park (2000), where she studied voice with Regina McConnell, and from the University of Missouri, Columbia (2007). Children’s choirs, under her direction, have been featured on National Public Radio’s Voice of America program and at the Strathmore Center for the Arts as part of the “State of the Schools” events and as special guests of renowned saxophonist Dave Koz. In 2009, she was named a Yale Distinguished Music Educator and was a 2014 nominee for the Marian Greenblatt Veteran Teacher Award. She lives in Rockville, MD, is married, and has two children. She is so excited to share her joy of music with the Beall community this year!
Lexis Hutchinson - Instrumental Music Teacher
Lexis Hutchinson is a 2nd year teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools and also teaches instrumental music at Galway and Matsunaga Elementary Schools. She holds a BA in Instrumental Music Education from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (Go Bracket Busters...I mean, Retrievers). Before joining MCPS, she taught privately throughout Baltimore and Howard County and was a Teaching Artist for the Baltimore Symphony’s inner city outreach program, OrchKids. She lives in Owings Mills, MD with her giant, but lovable mastiff, Livia. She knows that she has big shoes to fill after the departure of Ms. Kanowith, but is incredibly excited to meet this challenge and work with the Beall students and their families.
