Psychological Services

School psychologists ensure that every child learns in a safe, healthy and supportive environment. They are school-based mental health professionals rained in both psychology and education. Psychological services are available to all students.

School psychologists are uniquely skilled in:

  • instructional consultation
  • collaboration
  • behavior management
  • social skill development
  • psychological assessment
  • identification of exceptionalities

They have the knowledge, skill, and experience to work in partnership with other school staff members and parents and apply psychological, mental health and child development approaches to enhance academic achievement and social-emotional learning.

MCPS school psychologists work in a variety of programs and setting such as Head Start programs, special and general education schools, alternative programs, and the bilingual assessment team.
