Athletic Updates

The following updates are provided to you  by the MCPS Systemwide Athletics Unit:

• Middle School Winter Season First Play Date (1/4/23)
• Congratulations to Quince Orchard High School for winning the 2022 4A State Football Championship.
• Congratulations to Damascus High School for winning the 2022 3A State Football Championship.

The officials shortage has really impacted our athletic programs. As such, it is critical we acknowledge and thank the officials that are actually making our games possible to play, during next week’s (1/9/23-1/14/23) Winter Sports Officials Appreciation Week. Students may celebrate officials by doing a few of  the following suggested recognitions and looping in the MCPS Athletics Office on these recognitions.

1. Greet and escort officials on the day of the game.
2. Take a picture with both teams and the officials after the game to post on Twitter with the hashtag #ThankyouOfficials and tag @mpssaa.org and @mcpsathletics – if your athletic department does not have a social media site – please email elizabeth_k_green@mcpsmd.org the picture and she will put it on MCPS athletics twitter and instagram - see a 2021-22 appreciation from Lakelands Park and Ridgeview middle schools

1. Sign a thank you card for captains to present to officials in the pre-game meeting with captains, coaches, and officials – (see video https://twitter.com/i/status/1511071109822754822 )
2. Bring a sign to a game that says thank you officials.
3. Decorate facilities in officials’ colors - black and white.
