New Superintendent of Schools Appointed

January 2022 Update
The Board of Education conducted a first round of interviews with potential candidates for the superintendent of schools. A second round of interviews was subsequently conducted with four finalists. The finalists also met with a Community Panel comprising a group of citizens drawn from a broad-based section of Montgomery County that represents students, post-secondary institutions, parents, multicultural and civic organizations, employee unions, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and county agencies. During this process, the Board remained committed to maintaining the confidentiality of candidates in order to find the best leader for our school system.
Working in partnership with the search firm of Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates (HYA), the Board committed to hiring the best person to lead our school system while preparing students for success in college and career. The search was guided by the Board’s core values, strategic priorities, and desired characteristics gathered from input by stakeholders in Montgomery County. The Board gathered input from the community on the critical characteristics of the next superintendent in a number of ways. There was a survey, virtual town halls, interviews, and focus groups with a broad spectrum of community leaders. All of the information gathered helped inform the selection of the next superintendent.

Leadership Profile Assessment
At its Special Board Meeting on November 18, 2021, consultant firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA) presented the findings of its Leadership Profile Assessment conducted in October and November 2021. HYA based its report on the various forms of community engagement and interviews conducted to obtain input to assist the Board of Education in determining the primary characteristics desired in the new superintendent.

*In addition to the Community Forums and Superintendent Search Survey, HYA Consultants hosted focus groups. Stakeholders were invited to meet with HYA Consultants and share their input on qualities they value in a superintendent.
