Dr. Scott Joftus was appointed to the Board of Education as the District 3 representative on December 14, 2021, to complete the vacant seat by the passing of Mrs. Patricia O’Neill. He currently serves on the Board's Fiscal Management Committee and the Board's Strategic Planning Committee.
Dr. Joftus is the founder and president of FourPoint Education Partners, a consulting firm that works with school districts, foundations, and nonprofits to improve outcomes for all students. He also is an adjunct professor at George Washington University’s Graduate School of Education and Human Development where he teaches education program evaluation and leadership.
Previously, Dr. Joftus has worked at The McKenzie Group, Alliance for Excellent Education, and the Council for Basic Education, as a public education advocate, evaluator, and technical assistance provider, working with leaders across sectors to promote educational equity and to improve outcomes for this country’s most vulnerable children and youth. Dr. Joftus started his career as a member of the first-ever corps of Teach for America, teaching fifth grade in Brooklyn, NY, and fourth grade in Lynnwood, CA.
Dr. Joftus holds a bachelor’s degree from Duke University, a master’s degree from UC Berkeley, and a doctorate in education policy and leadership from George Washington University. He is married to Cara Lesser and is the proud father of two daughters—a recent MCPS graduate and an MCPS high school junior.
